Tips To Eat Healthy While Dining Out And Still Enjoy Your Meal
Everyone loves to go out for a meal. It’s a great way to socialize and always fun to let someone else do the cooking anclean up. Just because you are dieting or watching your weight doesn’t mean you have to destroy your healthy diet. These simple tips show you how to eat healthy while dining out but will not embarrass you. In fact, no one will even know you are watching what you eat.
Breakfast
This is the easy meal to order for when wanting to eat healthy while dining out. You can order any omelette you’d like, just substitute out egg white. Think you don’t like egg whites? Ordered with cheese, your favorite meats and vegetables, you’ll barely be able to tell the difference. Instead of getting a cream sauce rich in sugar, ask for salsa. If you want pancakes, order them with whole wheat and fresh fruit. You can also bring you own syrup. Use an all natural maple or a Blue Agave. For waffles, add fruit and whipped cream. Pass on the toast on the side, simple way to cancel out a lot of carbs.Good thing about splurging on breakfast is you have the rest of the day to exercise or walk it off. If you do go a little overboard, eat a lighter lunch and dinner.
Lunch
It’s hard to find a restaurant today that doesn’t have at least two really tasty but healthy salad options for people that want to eat healthy while dining out. No matter what, always order your dressing on the side. Make sure the salad has grilled chicken of some sort i.e….thai is fine. You can also opt for fish or even a lean steak if available. If you get a taco salad don’t eat the hard shell and replace quest cheese with salsa. Again, if you go a little overboard, take some extra steps or hit the gym. Eat a lighter dinner.
Dinner
Here’s the one we can all get into some trouble. First, if you are going to drink, make it a point to stick to only a couple of beers or a glasses of wine. Be sure to drink at least one glass of water with each adult beverage.More than likely you will have planned your night out beforehand so keep that in mind will eating during the day. Don’t skip meals or starve yourself, that will just lead to over eating at dinner. Just eat lighter meals. About an hour before you are going out, eat some lean, healthy protein, around 20-25 grams worth. Drink 16 oz of water with it, this will make you feel fuller before leaving. Skip the appetizer, get your salad dressing on the side and avoid rich, creamy sauces.
Tips to eat healthy while dining out at different cuisines
Mexican food – who does’t love food from south of the border! We have tons of great choices in San Diego. Do not load up on chips and salsa. I know it tastes great but the chips are always deep fried. load each chip u[ with the fresh salsa (if they don’t serve fresh made salsa, you need to find a new Mexican restaurant!) Drink a couple sips of water every couple of chips. Avoid sour cream and quest cheese. Get corn tortillas instead of flour. Chicken fajitas, shrimp tacos or a burrito with beans and extra vegetables are all good choice.
Chinese food – another favorite! Order brown rice instead of white. If you can stomach spice food, order kung pa chicken or general tso’s (assuming it’s grilled, not deep fried) chicken. The spice will make you thirsty, drink lots of water while eating. Order steamed dumplings instead of fried won tons or egg rolls. Any spicy stir fry with peanuts, broccoli added is good. And of course sashimi.
American – order a good steak if possible, like a filet mignon or tenderloin. Ask how it is prepared, If the sauce sounds good but really fattening, order it on the side and use it lightly as a dip. Mist restaurants have grass fed burgers. You should eat burgers with no bun but f you want to splurge, ask for a whole wheat bun and only eat the bottom slice. Make sure it is not caked in mayonnaise or their own special sauce. Again, order sauces on the side. If you want fries, make sure they are sweet potato. Same with a baked potato, substitute for a baked sweet potato. Most places will have a double chicken breast with brown rice and vegetables, great choice.

Thanks for the tip about the wheat bun for burgers that you have pointed out under the American cuisine. My mom loves burgers but avoid them thinking they are unhealthy. I guess wheat burgers would make her happy now. 🙂

I almost busted into laughter when you said not to skip meals as that could lead to over eating at dinner. 😀 Actually I have a friend who purposely skips his lunch so that that he could eat as much as he can, whenever we are going to go out for dinner. Nice post.

Frankly speaking, all the times that I am dining out with friends, family or colleagues it just for the junk food. We never have junk food at our home so I dine out only for those.

This is very important thing to note because most of the times when we go out for dining, no doubt we do enjoy the food always but the food isn’t always the healthy one.
