Football Season Is Here! Careful Not To Pack On The Pounds
Football season’s here which is exciting and sad. Exciting because I love football! Sad because another summer is over. I hope you had a great summer. Football season is great but it is also a time to really watch out you don’t pack on the pounds. With beach days, pool parties, river trips, it’s easy to make sure you keep fit so you look good with your shirt off. Now, however, football season not only brings fun parties with beer and junk food but for many the colder months are around the corner making it easy to hide some extra fat around the belly. Don’t do it! Whether you go to the games, go watch them at a bar or have friends over, it’s easy to consume lots of calories. Even though I’m sure most of you use Sunday’s as your day to eat anything, remember to moderate. Eat foods high in protein which will not only fill you up quicker but keep you full longer. Eat small portions. Wait at least 20 minutes between eating to give the food a chance to fill your stomach. If drinking beer, have a glass of water at the same time. Moderate! And have fun.
Here are some great tasting game day food ideas to munch on. They go great with beer drinking while cheering on your team and will help with not pack on the pounds. Go Chargers! Couldn’t resist, don’t laugh too hard. I’m sure we’re in for another stellar year (sarcasm intended) but it’s my home so I hope for the best.
Kale Chips And Guacamole
Kale is a super food, meaning it’s packed with even more nutrients than other foods. These tasty, good-for-you chips weigh in at only 2.7 grams of Net Carbs per serving and features heart-healthy olive oil and a sprinkling of sea salt. Guacamole is rich in fiber, potassium and other essential nutrients. Plus they taste great together.
Lettuce Wrapped BBQ Burgers
Who doesn’t love a nice juicy burger while watching their team? Dump the bun and you are in for a real treat. Do a double! Add cheese, no problem. Even add bacon if you wish, just make sure it’s uncured bacon (Trader Joe’s Applewood smoked uncured bacon is amazing). Add onion, tomato and go to town. Hold the mayo and ketchup but use all the spicy mustard you can handle.

There are so many great tasting foods to eat while watching the game there is no reason for you to pack on the pounds during football season. if you are tail gaiting or going to a friends, you can make any of the above and take with you in a food warmer. Of course there’s nothing more fun than firing up a BBQ in the parking lot. Just make sure you use quality lean meet and enjoy.

I agree, winter is notorious for gaining unwanted pounds. I might add to your snack items – rice cakes with lentils, quinoa with a fresh tomato dip. No fat and packed with proteins.
