Pre and post workout Nutrition – Don’t Forget These
Pre and post workout nutrition is characterized by a high intake of protein-rich foods such as turkey, beans, and lean proteins. Typically, a workout diet is also characterized by a low intake of carbohydrate-rich foods. If you have been considering improving your workout diet and wondered what the benefits may be, here are a few reasons why you should up your workout diet.
Fat burning
Because a typical workout diet consists of foods rich in protein, your body will burn more fats and less carbohydrates in a process known as ketosis. In most cases, this result in weight loss due to the constant breaking down of fats to create energy.
Decrease in hunger
One of the effects of eating protein-rich foods is an increase in satiety. This means that you will feel full sooner after eating protein-rich foods before and after your workout sessions. As a result, you will feel hungry less often and will not be tempted to snack throughout the day.
Stabilize blood sugar
Diabetics on a good pre and post workout nutrition plan experience stabilization of their blood sugar. This is usually the result of less sugar and carbohydrate consumption, which blunts the body’s insulin response. While the body will still convert proteins into glucose, it will do so at a much slower pace. However, if you are diabetic, consult your physician before changing to a high protein workout diet.
A good workout diet does not include unhealthy foods such as fried foods that are often high in calories and low in nutrients. Adding healthy foods to your workout diet means you will get more nutrition for your calorie buck.Lower Disease Risk
Including healthy foods in your workout diet will help you avoid lifestyle diseases like obesity, heart diseases, and diabetes. Reducing your consumption of trans fats, cholesterol, and saturated fats will help you control your intake of bad cholesterol and lower your risk of heart diseases. In addition, reducing your sodium intake will lower your risk of heart diseases as well as prevent damage to your kidneys, blood vessels and other vital body organs.
Healthy pre and post workout nutrition results in a healthy weight, which translates to less pressure on your internal organs. In addition, healthy weight will allow you to move more easily when working out. More fiber from fruits, vegetables, and grains will help regulate your digestion. Proteins and carbohydrates will help your body generate energy. All these benefits of a good pre and post workout nutrition will help you perform your best during each workout session and in your daily activities.Your body relies on proper nutrition to provide enough energy for all your physical activities and psychological functioning. An unhealthy pre and post workout nutrition does not provide the nutrients you need to maintain optimal health. A healthy diet enables you to reap rewards in the form of high energy levels, lower body weight, and reduced risk of contracting diseases.

I was overweight and have been told that I was at risk for Diabetes and other health problems. I did a major change in the way I eat and I am still constantly looking around the web for health and eating advise. I have lost weight by adding more protein to my diet and exercising, just like your post says. My doctors say I’m on the right track to living a long and healthly life. Great post and keep up the great work!

This post is so correct about being fuller faster when you eat protein. I love pasta, but I can end up eating a lot of it and still be hungry in a few hours. When I eat a healthly meal with protein, I notice I’m not hungry as fast as I use to be. It doesn’t seem possible but it true.

Wow I guess I’ve been doing this all wrong. On days I exercise I always eat foods that are higher in carbs thinking I’ll just burn it off at the gym. Oopps 🙁 I guess the theory I made up in my head is wrong. I’ll definitely be changing this up now.

I am full of suggestions but the bottom line is you need to do what works for you and what you will stick with. Good job going to the gym!

A lot of people don’t realize how nutrition and exercise go hand in hand. I was one of those people. Thanks for this post because I didn’t realize just how important protein was for being healthy.

your welcome!

I never really knew the importance of protein until recently. I don’t eat meat but have learned what other types of foods have protein in them. since I’ve added more to my diet, I have noticed I am feeling better and my weight isn’t fluctuating like it use too!

As a college athlete, our coach and the other staff stress all of this every day we go to practice. And I learned some of it when I was in high school, on the basketball team. Once you start living this way, it’s nothing to do it daily. “Clean living” as our coach calls it.

Hey great blog! Does running a blog similar to this take a massive amount work?
I have absolutely no understanding of coding but I was hoping
to start my own blog soon. Anyways, should you have any ideas or techniques for new blog owners please share.
I understand this is off subject however I simply wanted to
ask. Kudos!

wordpress keeps things simple, no coding knowledge required. I use the Yoast SEO plugin, it directs me in SEO, readability etc… keeps it simple. Write about something you love, makes it very easy!

I have diabetes that runs in my family, along with heart disease, therefore I am vigilant about exercise and eating healthy. You can’t stop genetics, but you can definitely reduce the chances of being afflicted by whatever disease just by simply exercising and eating healthier.
Rob Denny says
I agree Trey

I lucked out, my wife is a nurse and a certified nutritionist, so when I do work out, I already have expert advice on how to go about it correctly. As Brandon stated, the more you know, the more effective it’ll be.

Great tips. Wish I had known all this years ago when I first started working out. But I learned and it IS effective, so if/when you decide to start, I suggest speaking to your doctor or get some kind of trainer involved. There’s a lot that the normal person doesn’t know about. It’s never too late to start, just make sure you know all you can to make it work.
